The University of Kentucky Police Department sent an email to the student body on Thursday, Sept. 5 addressing the “concerns surrounding the safety of our campus” after events from this week.

According to the email, UKPD will “be increasing its presence on North Campus and other residential areas on campus in the coming weeks.”

Over the weekend there were shots fired on North Campus, a robbery outside of Boyd and Patterson Hall, and a reported case of sexual assault in Chellgren Hall.

The email also informed students that this fall, UKPD will partner with a professional campus security team called Allied Universal to add security to residence halls.

UKPD said more than $18 million has been invested in on-campus safety initiatives over the last decade.

Resources for students were also listed, such as the 50 Blue Emergency Towers located across campus, free late night transportation and the LiveSafe App which gives students the ability to text police officers at any time by way of two-way text messaging.
